Pelvic floor physiotherapy, also known as pelvic health, is a specialized branch of physiotherapy focused on assessing, treating, and preventing dysfunctions of the muscles, ligaments, fasciae, and organs associated with the pelvic floor - the group of structures located at the base of the pelvis.

It is suitable for women, men, and children/adolescents, each group experiencing specific issues related to their age and physiology.

For Women :
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is often recommended for:
  • Urinary incontinence (stress, urge, or mixed)
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Pelvic pain (dyspareunia, vulvodynia, etc.)
  • Birth preparation and postpartum recovery
  • Constipation or defecation disorders
  • Endometriosis (management of associated pelvic pain)
For Men :
It may be beneficial in cases of:
  • Urinary or fecal incontinence, especially post-prostate surgery
  • Chronic pelvic pain (chronic non-bacterial prostatitis, chronic pelvic pain syndrome)
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Bowel disorders
For Children and Adolescents :
Pelvic floor physiotherapy can help with:
  • Enuresis (bedwetting)
  • Daytime urinary incontinence
  • Functional constipation or encopresis
  • Voiding disorders

Treatment includes education on pelvic floor anatomy and function, strengthening or relaxation exercises, manual techniques, and sometimes electrostimulation, biofeedback, or ultrasound. Lifestyle factors such as posture, breathing, and diet are also addressed.
All care is personalized and tailored to the individual’s age, gender, and specific condition.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is covered by LAMal, LAA, AI, and military insurance with a medical prescription.
The first session must take place within five weeks of the date on the prescription.
