During Pregnancy (Antenatal Care)
The midwife provides both medical and emotional care throughout pregnancy, while respecting its natural course. She may work independently in low-risk pregnancies or in collaboration with a physician in high-risk cases.
Her role includes :
- Prenatal check-ups : monthly consultations, clinical exams, lab tests, and screenings
- Birth and parenthood preparation : theoretical and practical sessions (breathing, movement, pain management, posture, partner’s role, etc.)
- Assessment of family dynamics and emotional well-being
- Early detection of complications with appropriate referral to a physician when needed
- Personalized support for birth plans, regardless of the chosen place of birth (hospital, clinic, or home)
Home Birth (Planned Home Delivery)
Home birth is a safe and regulated option offered under specific conditions (low-risk pregnancy, complete prenatal care, and suitable home environment).
The midwife’s role during a home birth includes :
- Ongoing assessment of the well-being of both mother and baby during labor
- Supportive and respectful presence during birth, without routine medical interventions
- Monitoring of fetal heart rate, labor progression, and maternal condition
- Emotional and physical support throughout labor and delivery
- Immediate post-birth care for mother and newborn
- Rapid transfer to a maternity facility in case of complications
